Benefits of becoming an international Cabin Crew member

Joining the cabin crew profession entails experiencing a one-of-a-kind career that provides a range of advantages, from a distinctive scheduling setup to discounted travel options and promotional prospects. You can begin your day in one city and conclude your shift in another, with the possibility of enjoying a 24-hour break or a week off before your next flight. You can explore new cities worldwide while you work, and benefit from staff tickets for you, your family and friends. It sounds like the dream job - and it really can be! We consulted our team to identify the most exciting benefits of the profession, and gathered their insights in this article. Here you will find some of the perks that contribute to making this occupation among the most distinctive and thrilling careers one can pursue.

1. No more 9am to 5pm schedule

If you are tired of the traditional workplace hours of 9am to 5pm, the cabin crew career is the perfect choice for you. Depending on the airline you will either receive a fixed pattern or a personalized schedule once a month. In general, cabin crew flying long-haul (flights of 6 - 12 hours in duration) have on average 5 or 6 trips a month, and 9 to 10 days off. As airline companies want to ensure crew members are well-rested to provide safe travel to their passengers, some cabin crew members work three days per week - something that can be a great benefit that allows more time for family, travel and personal hobbies.

2. Discounted tickets

Some airlines - if not the big majority - will offer staff tickets for you and your family, and sometimes even to your friends, allowing you to purchase tickets with a great discount and travel to your favorite destinations. Some international airlines even provide additional free annual leave tickets to your country of origin, to ensure you have the time and means to visit your loved ones. Emirates Airlines, for instance, is one of the airlines that offer this benefit to its employees.

3. Promotion opportunities

Having a great record, always being on time, and performing on board will help you receive a promotion faster. Contracts can be anywhere between 6 months and 3 years, but also open-ended, so you can figure out if the cabin crew career is the right move for you - whether you wish to fly as a seasonal cabin crew or have it as a permanent career.

Many airlines allow you to work towards different promotional opportunities depending on the availability of the role, such as: Cabin Crew Evaluators, Senior Cabin Crew Member, Flight Purser, Ground Instructor, Base Chief, and more.

Another possibility is to combine the cabin crew role with an administrative position, or even transition solely into an administrative role - a path taken by our Recruitment Manager at AAP Aviation, Lena.

“Throughout my career as cabin crew, I have had the opportunity to fly worldwide on airplanes ranging from the Boeing 737 to the Airbus A380. In my case, this experience has helped me develop into becoming a cabin crew recruiter and, subsequently, a recruitment manager. The career opportunities stemming from being cabin crew can lead you in various directions, as it has for me. What I love most about my role is enabling others to embark on this rewarding career path!"

4. Travel the world while working

As cabin crew, you will be able to travel and enjoy sightseeing in the most spectacular places, whenever on a layover. This benefit allows you to experience many different places, without having to pay for expensive hotels on your own - considering that when traveling overnight for work, cabin crew members get the stays for free.

5. Multicultural environment

When working as an international cabin crew member, you will have colleagues from all over the world - which means you can even practice and/or learn a new language. You will be able to discover and learn about different customs and views on life, while sharing your own. With Emirates Airlines, for instance, you get to meet and work with people from over 120 nationalities.

If the benefits mentioned above excite you and you see yourself thriving in this unique career, we recommend you to take a look at our international cabin crew positions available, or to register your profile in our database.
